A Solid Solution
Though you may be able to somehow keep yourself from teeth grinding during the day, it is difficult because it is an unconscious habit. But since bruxism often happens when you sleep, it is pretty impossible to curb it then. Our Cornwall dentist, Dr. Steven Deneka, will do a thorough examination and if he finds that you do indeed suffer from bruxism, we’ll create an orthodontic appliance, also called a mouthguard or night guard or splint, to prevent teeth grinding.
How does a mouthguard work?
A mouthguard is an appliance, something like a mouthguard an athlete would wear. Bruxism sufferers wear the mouthguard usually while sleeping. The mouthguard stops your upper and lower teeth from touching. If your teeth do not touch, you cannot grind them.
Dr. Deneka, Cornwall dentist, is dedicated to helping you with this issue. He will discuss which type of mouthguard will work best for you. We offer a larger, adjustable mouthguard. Or you may prefer the small clip-on style (NTI) that fits over top front teeth that holds your mouth open and your upper and lower teeth apart.
