Implant-Supported Dentures
Implants can replace individual teeth or support a prosthetic (denture, partial, or bridge). If you suffer from loose or slipping dentures, implants can help you reclaim self-confidence in social, romantic, and professional situations. Dental implants are small titanium posts embedded in the jawbone. In addition to anchoring prosthetic teeth, implants reduce the potential for jaw deterioration because of the stimulating effect they have on bone tissue.
Implant posts for implant-supported dentures come in two styles. Your dentures (new or modified to fit on implants) will snap onto abutments on the dental implant posts or, if you so choose, they may attach to a bar supported across dental implant posts. Dr. Deneka will talk with you about these options and help you decide which solution is best for your situation.
Plan on a minor surgery with a respected oral surgeon or periodontist. Dr. Deneka will oversee your case as your general dentist, coordinating with the specialist throughout your surgery. Then, once your mouth has healed and bone has integrated with the posts, Dr. Deneka will work with our dental lab to create a custom denture, partial, or bridge, or to modify your current prosthetic. He’ll teach you how to attach and remove your implant-supported dentures.
You will not have to hassle with messy denture adhesive or natural suction to hold your dentures in place. Simple care instructions will be provided, and if you follow them, your implants could last the rest of your life. When the actual denture wears out, it will need to be replaced or altered. Regular maintenance and checkups are highly recommended.
